Internet Gambling Ban Won't Work

Others share the opinion. Prohibition didn't work. It was so much easier to police. This doesn't have a chance. Sooooo, stick it in the middle of a port security bill. Why won't it work? To hard to enforce? Yep. But that's not the BIG reason. Companies are mostly foreign? Yep. But that's not the BIG reason. The BIG reason? Here it is. YOU CANNOT LEGISLATE MORALITY IN A SUCCESSFUL MANNER. Period. Never could. They tried. They failed.

Just a thought.

How does passing a law that bans something equate to legislating morality? Isn't this the nature of all law? Law in its essence attempts to restrict immoral behavior through a series of well defined punishments.

For once, I agree with you, Beef (I think this happened once before), with one small caveat. All law is actually a matter of legislating morality, so your first question is answered by your second.

I think what Ol' BC is saying here is that the law will fail in much the same way prohibition did. He belives that in the end that fighting whatever "problem" is being fought here will have fewer benefits than simply letting it go.

Time will tell.

I don't think there was an issue with regard to clarity. His distinction was made quite clear in his post.
