Not All Businesses Are Struggling

Since the election B. Hussein Obama, sales of firearms are up. Amazing.

Gun sellers say the election of Barack Obama is helping them avoid the
recession. Sales of new guns are booming - up an estimated 50 percent in the
suburbs.

Note that the article is from Chicago. They may know him a little better than the rest of us.

Just a thought.

I personally know three friends that have never even considered owning a handgun. Today they do.
Coincidence? Hardly!

I am curious just what proposals Obama has put forth that makes people have this reaction, or are they all just a bunch of knee-jerk conservatives?

Here are a few positions Obama has taken that are completely illegal:

1998 - Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions.

2004 - Bush erred in failing to renew assault weapons ban.

2005 - Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers.

2006 - Keep guns out of inner cities

2007 - Stop unscrupulous gun dealers dumping guns in cities, Concealed carry OK for retired police officers, cosponsored bill to limit purchases to 1 gun per month.

2008 - Provide enforcement on gun licensing, local gun bans ok, endorsed Illinois handgun ban, Ok for states & cities to determine local gun laws.

All of these are direct violations of the Second Amendment.

It is a troubling debate. While I think it is somewhat silly to run out and by guns in this way, I must nevertheless support the owning and purchasing of guns.

I am not a fan of guns, but it is clear to me that guns don't kill people... people kill people. If only we could address these more fundamental, societal problems.

There are no such things as societal problems. Problems are all problems of individuals, and we all must be free to address our troubles, as individuals.

To have government under a socialist-inclined administration, limit one's ability to solve these problems by looting his productivity and setting up roadblocks in the form of useless, needless regulations, only increases the frustration level. At some point, under this unneeded strain, some folks will crack.

The rest of us recognize the need to defend ourselves against these people and, indeed, against the government itself.

There are most certainly societal problems. When we create myths and symbols that support a culture that glorifies work over raising children and violence over love, then we create societal problems. Individuals act in accordance with societal strictures and rules, they behave generally in a way that is acceptable to the governing societal ideology. Therefore, when people act badly, we must look at why they act badly. Are we teaching them, through codes, unspoken messages, and cultural symbols, stories, and myths to act in these ways?

You cannot discount the power of culture and the society as a whole on the individual. And you cannot give the individual too much credit in his/her ability to discern the messages and the cultural agenda.

We are all subject to these messages every day. You, me, everyone. So, when I refer to societal problems, I mean have we created a society that fosters its own problems? The answer can and must be yes. Societies teach the individual and individuals instruct the society. It is never one thing or the other. Therefore there are definitely societal and individual problems. Too label one thing as the only root cause is to miss the other myriad host of influences that can and do govern individual behavior.

I say analyze the actions of crazy demented people (including those serving in the US government) AFTER they're safely put away or dead.

That way I can raise my children and love them as they deserve.

No one has put work over raising children or violence over love. We merely recognize that raising children takes work and that love takes strong defense capabilities - something liberals smear with their gobbledygook.

If libs were serious about people raising their children instead of working so hard, they'd get out of people's pockets so that they would have the opportunity to work less and spend more time with their kids.

If libs were serious about love being more important than violence, they would stop their people from passing illegal laws that take the guns away that prevent that very violence, so that people could have the opportunity to love in peace.

It is interesting that you have to attack liberals in this response, as I was not referring to liberals or conservatives at all.

The fact is that people often choose work over spending time with their children. And the messages of our culture tell us to do this. We also glorify violence over love. This is exceedingly obvious to even the most casual observer of our American culture. This is why people have a hard time displaying public affection or watching kissy scenes but will watch gore and violence without batting an eye. We are taught daily that the human body and nudity is bad and sex is bad and violence is fun!

And, my dear Rocker, if guns really prevented violence, then please tell me why there are so many gun related crimes and death? Let me guess. It's the liberals? Surely you can pin it on something besides a culture that glorifies guns, allows easy access to guns, and then does nothing about rampant murder in our streets.

MArk,

People choose work over spending time with their families so that they can pay the mortgage and buy food--and other frivolous, materialistic pursuits.

That's an individual problem.

It's caused by the fact that draconian taxation erodes every dime one earns by half. Hence, when I was a boy, my mom didn't have to work. Now, generally both parents have to work full-time just to keep food on the table and keep the nazi-inspired IRS off their backs. That's a government problem--that is, a problem wholly caused by government.

Were the various layers of government to reduce their spending and taxation by....say, 90%, and making the remaining 10% voluntary (in the same manner as does the catholic church--not a poor organization by any measure) families could take it a bit easier and be able to spend more time together

I wasn't attacking anybody. I was simply stating facts.

And, my dear Rocker, if guns really prevented violence, then please tell me why there are so many gun related crimes and death?

Because there aren't enough people who are carrying guns. If you are a person who only understands violence and survival (and that's pretty much who's committing those crimes and causing those deaths), you have a pretty easy time finding victims because guns aren't easily accessible. Check out Chicago, for a good example - they have some of the most stringent illegal laws regarding guns in the USA - and look at their crime rate, particularly crimes involving guns.

Of course, you defend these stupid laws, despite their blatant illegality. The Founding Fathers gave us the Second Amendment for a reason, and whether you agree with them or disagree with them, the Second Amendment is the law, and by circumventing it, the liberals who foist these laws on our country are committing what I believe should be a criminal offense punishable by life imprisonment without parole or death.

The fact is that people often choose work over spending time with their children.

When they can afford to spend time with their families, they do. Runaway taxation is the culprit here. When you tax the rich, you fire the poor. It never works out for good. This is a forced choice brought on by liberals (yup those pesky liberals again) who insist that women must go to work, kill their babies, pay back-breaking taxes on the money they make - and the men must all do the same. Make more money than they decide is enough, and prepare for more back-breaking taxes.

Gotta go. Duty calls.

If there were easy access to guns, these problems would be much lessened. The best thing that could be done about rampant murder in our streets would be to properly arm the poulace so that victims wouldn't be so easy to come by.
