Phoenix Sheriff In Hot Water

Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County (Phoenix) Arizona is catching heat from the mayor for putting forth some effort to address the illegal alien problem in the area. This article tells the story.

The "saturation patrols" have drawn protests from civil rights and
immigrant-rights advocates, but they have drawn support from backers of Maricopa
County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and from people who believe the government hasn't done
enough against illegal immigration.

I find all this talk interesting for several reasons. First, the illegal aliens aren't immigrants. This country has and has had an immigration process to allow a legal and orderly flow of immigrants into this country. This has been the case for years and years. I've yet to hear anybody scream for its abandonment. Secondly, the illegal aliens have broken the law of the land in this country by entering illegally. It seems someone willing to try to enforce our laws should be applauded . Also, I fail to understand what rights of these illegal aliens the "advocates" are talking about. I have yet to see anything pointing to abuse or torture or anything of the like. Merely apprending a law breaker doesn't seem out of line to me. It certainly doesn't seem to be a violation of one's rights. Actually, it sounds like someone is serious about his sworn duty to the people he serves.

Just a thought.
