Aussies Going Crazy Down Under

First it was a silly gun control law that backfired on them and now this. Seems "Big Brother" down under has taken it upon itself to require internet filters "to protect children from online pornography and violent websites." Funny as it seems, Ol' BC thought that was the job of parents. On second thought, responsible parenting can land one in a heap of trouble in some parts of the U.S. This helps justify the nanny state assuming a bigger role. Remember, Khrushchev said we will bury you without firing a shot. Looks much closer now than it did in the early 1960's.

Gun Control? Check This Out.

While Ol' BC doesn't own a gun, he is among the strongest proponents of the 2nd amendment to the U.S. constitution without exception (as it is written). As a kid though, Ol' BC belonged to a gun club. I learned gun safety as well as how to shoot and actually became more than semi-proficient. I'd hate to guess how many rounds we fired at the National Guard armory. This post by Colonel Hogan gives more than ample reason to assume such a position when gun control comes into question. A couple of examples. . .

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20
million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

And then

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13
million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and
exterminated.

Colonel Hogan points out numerous other instances where gun control has had nothing but a negative effect including the recent Australian law and the increase in violent crime that followed.

Ol' BC is not one to question everybody's motives, but sometimes you just have to wonder. . .
in light of the historical data available, what would lead someone to be in favor?

Happy Secular Occasion? No, Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! I sincerely hope that nobody feels threatened by that. I never felt threatened or uncomfortable by someone wishing me Happy Hanukkah. I was grateful for the kind wishes and hardly felt threatened. I don't think I would feel threatened if someone wished me a wonderful Ramadan. Again, thanks for the kind wishes. I think those who prefer a secular world need to come up with a better argument. This "discomfort" and "threatened" crap just doesn't hold water.

What prompted this? A funny thing happened to Ol' BC at the workplace. Business was slow as it always is during the Christmas season. There were "Christmas" cards on display in the various departments. Sooooo.....Ol' BC began a count. Thirty-four cards( I think) displayed. Three referenced Christmas. I found that somewhat odd for a "Christmas " card. I asked a couple of people what those things were and they both said "Christmas cards." Funny how hardly any mention Christmas. Maybe this "secular occasion" crap has more weight that I thought. Doesn't Christmas celebrate a specific event? I know here Colonel Hogan's public children's prisons now have "winter break." We had "Christmas vacation."

I'm failing to see the benefit. I'm just glad that in this country we don't cut people's heads off that don't go along with the holiday.

More Pork...And Not For Breakfast

Pork? Here's some more. Not of the sausage or bacon variety. This is the green variety as defined in the post below.

Heritage Foundation experts have identified 9,241 earmarks in the Omnibus budget
bill, totaling just over $23.5 billion.

Wow. This should be the drumbeat of the campaigns. Taxes and spending sometimes get a brief mention. Maybe now is the time to project to the back of the room.

Earmarks...Democrats Remember How

Earmarking is a no longer subtle way of directing money to certain projects or people that that has become much better known of late. The GOP caught all kinds of grief for such things when they controlled the Congress. In the neighborhood of two thousand (2000) earmarks according to the self righteous Democrats whose only mission is slam Bush and the GOP. They did, in fact, have a lot of it coming. They were totally irresponsible with the public largess.

NOW, it has been said that the Democrats are taking this earmark thing to new heights. Ol' BC recently read where there is said to be twelve thousand (12,000) earmarks in the pending energy bill. Over 650 pages worth!! What will Reid and Pelosi have to say when they discover this?

Remember how they ripped the Republicans when earmarks approached two thousand (2000)? They could really be upset about six times as much.
